South Suburban Chiefs

The SSACOP has grown into an organization respected and recognized throughout the State of Illinois. The Association has established a working rapport with the South Suburban Mayors and Managers Association and public agencies including legislators representing member communities. The Association is one of fifteen regional Chiefs associations affiliated with the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP). Many of our members play an active role on committees of the IACP.


The Network 3 Honor Guard consisting of members from East Hazel Crest, Flossmoor, Hazel Crest, Homewood,and Thornton present the colors at the Special Olympics Opening Ceremonies The 2005 Executive Development Conference Committee. Lynwood Sergeant Greg Szymanski, South Holland Chief Warren Millsaps, Lynwood Chief Dave Palmer and Hazel Crest Retired Chief Peter Fee. Detective William Alcott, Homewood Police Department receives one of the Peace Officer Meritorious Service Awards at the 2007 Awards Dinner. Detective Alcott was also named the IL Chiefs MOST OUTSTANDING LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER OF THE YEAR.

2009 Police and Support Staff Dependant College Scholarship
Eight area students have each been awarded $1,000 scholarships by the South Suburban Association of Chiefs of Police (SSACOP). Students include:

Brandon Tilton, South Chicago Heights, from Marion Catholic High School

2009 Executive Development

The South Suburban Association of Chiefs of Police Executive Development Conference will return to Eagle Ridge Resort April 30 - May 3, 2009. Dr. Jack Enter will be the training presenter.
